Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney updates DL Peter Woods' injury vs. Appalachian State
CLEMSON — Clemson football defensive lineman Peter Woods exited Saturday's game against Appalachian State with an injury with 12:45 left in the second quarter Saturday against
The injury occurred away from the play after App State rushed for 11 yards on its opening drive of the quarter. Woods was chop-blocked by a Mountaineers tight end and was checked by trainers. He walked on his own to the injury tent with a slight limp.
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney thinks Woods will be "OK" but will know more Sunday after a through check. The Tigers coach disapproved of how Woods' injury happened.
"We’ll turn that one in," Swinney said. "Chop blocks are illegal No. 1. Can't chop block ever."
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney checked on the defensive lineman during the TV timeout. Woods exited the medical tent but did not have his helmet as he stood alongside Clemson staffers.
Swinney also commented on linebacker Kobe McCloud's injury. He exited the game right before halftime as staffers helped him walk off the field.
"Kobe got banged up," Swinney said. "Hopefully, it won't be too bad."
Clemson (1-1) defeated App State 66-20 on Saturday to win its first game of the season. It has a open week next Saturday before facing NC State on Sept. 21 in its first conference game.
