Clemson football, Dabo Swinney keeping depth chart vs Georgia a secret until Saturday

CLEMSON — Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney and Georgia's Kirby Smart have started their chess match, five days before kickoff.

The No.14-ranked Tigers released their Week 1 game notes ahead of Saturday's matchup (noon ET, ABC) against the No. 1 team in the country, but neither team unveiled its depth chart.

Clemson typically announces its depth chart on Monday or Tuesday before each game but declined to release it this week. In its game notes, it says, "Clemson's initial depth chart for the 2024 season will be available at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on game day."

Smart hasn't traditionally had a Week 1 depth chart. The Bulldogs' game notes don't include a section for either team's lineup. In Clemson's game notes, it says, "Please see Georgia's game notes for details and insight on team personnel."

Saturday's game will be the highest-ranked Week 1 matchup and has sold out. The Peach Bowl will pay both schools $5 million for participating.

This will be the first of five scheduled meetings between Clemson and Georgia during the next 10 years. The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 10-3 in their most recent matchup in 2021 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

Georgia enters as a double-digit favorite, but Clemson is confident it can pull off the upset.
