Clemson baseball uses hidden ball trick in NCAA Clemson Regional final

Clemson baseball and pitcher Ethan Darden needed to get out of a second inning jam against Coastal Carolina in Sunday's Clemson Regional final at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

So the Tigers performed the rarely-used hidden ball trick.

Darden and Clemson third baseman Blake Wright (who had the baseball) feigned a ball transfer after getting the first out in the Coastal second, with runners at second and third base. When Coastal's Dean Mihos stepped off the third-base bag in preparation for the next at-bat, Wright tagged him out.

Darden produced another groundout in the following at-bat for the third out to end the inning.

Rarely does a team utilize a hidden ball trick in any circumstance, but the Tigers decided to use it in an NCAA Tournament regional final.

Clemson and Coastal Carolina are playing in the Clemson Regional final on Sunday, with the Tigers having two games to win one and advance to the super regionals.

The Tigers won 4-3 against Coastal on Saturday in the winners bracket game, with the Chanticleers winning against High Point to advance to the regional final.
