With a Sun Belt Conference victory already under its belt, Louisiana football returns to Swamp Country to face its second conference foe, Appalachian State. This marks the first meeting between the two teams since 2021 when they battled it out for the SBC Championship game where UL won 24-16.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (4-1, 1-0 SBC) broke an 11-plus year losing streak against conference rivals Southern Miss while handling the Golden Eagles 23-13 last week. The highlight of the win was a defensive awakening for the Cajuns who before then had no sacks on the year. Junior outside linebacker Cameron Whitfield led the quarterback pressure snagging a school-record four sacks.

That’s the kind of defensive performance UL football will look to continue against App State (2-3, 0-2 SBC) who hasn’t had the best start to the 2024 season. With Hurricane Helen impacting the Mountaineers’ community and canceling their Week 5 game vs. Liberty, they are still finding their rhythm.

At the helm of App State’s offense is senior quarterback Joey Aguilar who has a strong but also can get first downs with his legs. The 6-foot-3 slinger has thrown for over 1,500 yards and eight touchdowns. The Cajuns will be led by level-headed fifth-year quarterback Ben Wooldridge. Wooldridge has thrown for 1,214 yards, and 10 touchdowns and has only been picked off twice this season.

With Wooldridge and momentum on defense, the Cajuns are looking to go to 2-0 in conference play while App State is looking to snag its first SBC win.
