After leaving the game early in the first half, Baker-Mazara posted "I believe in my boys they got em!!" on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The 6-foot-7 guard is in his first season with Auburn after transferring from JUCO Northwest Florida State College in the offseason. Baker-Mazara started his career at Duquesne before transferring to San Diego State after his freshman season.

Auburn coach Bruce Pearl said on the broadcast Baker-Mazara was wrong for the move, but said he thought it was a flagrant 1 instead of a flagrant 2. Pearl also said Baker-Mazara was retaliating, as he said Baker-Mazara was hit in the throat before being called for a flagrant 2.

"Obviously, we just saw the replay and what he did was wrong," Pearl said. "I thought it should've been a flagrant 1, not a 2, especially in a game after an entire season of work. (It) is something that's obviously going to disrupt us. He is one of our very best players. It was a retaliation. He had just got hit in the throat the play before and he shouldn't have retaliated."

Why was Chad Baker-Mazara ejected?

Auburn guard Chad Baker-Mazara was ejected in Friday's NCAA Tournament game against Yale after elbowing an opposing player. Baker-Mazara was given a Flagrant 2 for the play, which results in an ejection.

What is a Flagrant 2 foul?

A Flagrant 1 foul is deemed as "two shots and the ball and that means excessive in nature or unnecessary or avoidable, uncalled for or not required by the circumstances of the play," according to the NCAA.

Naturally, a Flagrant 2 is a similar foul but of a harsher nature, and results in an immediate ejection of the player.

"The rules committee added more words to describe this scenario, including brutal, harsh or cruel or dangerous or punishing," the NCAA wrote in 2022.
