Central Bucks South football continues streak with win over CB East
DOYLESTOWN — The roar from the visiting locker room after the game was deafening, even with the doors closed.
Had Central Bucks South won a second straight PIAA District One Class 6A title?
No, the Titans hadn't. But they did dominate host and rival CB East 34-15 in the Suburban One League National Conference opener for both teams.
"Any time that we can beat another CB team, it's a huge win," CB South senior wide receiver/defensive back Dan Gies said.
"We haven't won the CB Cup since I don't know when and it would be great to win it this year."
The CB Cup is awarded to the Central Bucks team that defeats the other two CB schools during the season.
The undefeated Titans (4-0) could secure the CB Cup next week with a win when they host CB West, but that's for later — the Patriots were the most important thing Friday night.
"We have to keep playing like we can," Gies said. "We're throwing the ball more this year. (Quarterback) Owen (Pinkerton) has been doing a great job and our defense has been playing really well and it's working for us."
South, which has allowed just 28 total points in its four wins, scored on its first three possessions on the way to the convincing win.
Pinkerton ran for a 39-yard score on South's first possession and then found Geis on a 48-yard strike the next time the Titans had the ball. The touchdown reception was the fourth of the season for Geis.
"That was a great catch by Danny the way he positioned his body and was able to grab it," CB South head coach Tom Hetrick said.
"He does so much for us on both offense and defense. He really came on in the middle of last season and has just been so solid on both sides of the ball."
Gies credited the offensive line and Pinkerton for what the Titans have been able to accomplish on offense thus far.
"We had a lot of seniors on the offensive line last year, but the guys behind them were learning and they worked really hard to be ready for this season," Gies said.
"Nick (Micewski) was the only one returning and he's really good and the rest of the guys have stepped up. And Owen just does his thing."

The loss dropped the Patriots to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the SOL National. East will try and bounce back on the road next week against Pennsbury.
What does it mean for Central Bucks South football?
The Titans look like a team that wants to defend its district title. They're playing stifling defense and are displaying a punishing ground game with just enough of a passing game to keep opposing defenses guessing.
Key play
The 48-yard Pinkerton-to-Gies touchdown pass that made it 13-0 in the first quarter.
Gies was well covered on the play, but managed to snag the pass. It was a 50-50 ball that looked like it could have been intercepted, but instead went for the score.
Game balls
Owen Pinkerton, CB South. The senior ran for a touchdown and threw for another and again commanded the offense with tremendous efficiency.
Nick Micewski, CB South. The senior left guard plays with a nasty streak and helped the Titans pile up 262 yards on the ground.
Mike Price, CB East. The sophomore running back had the Patriots' first touchdown on an 80-yard burst up the middle and finished with a game-high 163 rushing yards on 21 attempts.
They said it:
"They're a really good football team and they're going to win a lot of games," East head coach John Donnelly said. "Our guys kept swinging the bats and I was pleased with our effort. We're young and we're going to get better."
"We knew this was going to be a competitive game against a good football team," Hetrick said. "It's a cross-town rival and we knew it was going to be physical. I think our guys upfront on the offensive did a really nice job and our defense was really solid."
