Cam Cannarella makes Willie Mays-styled catch to save Clemson baseball's season vs. Florida

With the season on the line, no moment is too big for Cam Cannarella.

One inning after forcing extra innings at Doug Kingsmore Stadium with a game-tying three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning, the Clemson baseball center fielder came up big with his defense.

With runners on first and second and two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning vs. Florida, Cannarella came up with a leaping over-the-shoulder Willie Mays catch in deep center field to hold off the Gators from walking it off — and ultimately ending the Tigers' season.

As noted by the ESPN broadcast, the odds of Cannarella making the catch off the bat of Ashton Wilson were not high, given the field positioning of Doug Kingsmore Stadium, as centerfield is built on an upward slope.

The sophomore outfielder of of Hartsville, South Carolina has put up solid defensive numbers and metrics all season for the Tigers, as highlighted by his .978 fielding percentage entering Sunday's game. In two seasons with Clemson, Cannarella has only committed three errors in 116 combined games.

As things stand, Clemson is tied 9-9 with Florida in the top of the 11th. The Tigers need a win vs. the Gators Sunday to force the "if necessary" Game 3 Monday.
