Cam Cannarella, Clemson baseball's star outfielder, will have surgery on right shoulder
CLEMSON — Clemson baseball coach Erik Bakich announced Wednesday outfielder Cam Cannarella will have surgery on his right shoulder in July.
The junior tore his labrum on Feb. 20 against Presbyterian when he slid into third base. It did not impact his hitting, but it limited his base running. Despite suffering the injury, he missed only two games.
"It was more of an injury that affected him right away," Bakich said. "We limited his throwing, which is why he DH'd for a while, but there's another example of just Cam's character, who he is as a person to play through an injury all year."
Cannarella will participate in USA Baseball's Collegiate National Team training camp for the second time later this month before undergoing surgery. The junior, who is expected to be back for the start of the 2025 season, is confident he will be the same-caliber player after the surgery.
"Next year, I'll have a way better season," Cannarella said.

Cannarella shined throughout Clemson's NCAA tournament run, making clutch plays repeatedly. He crushed a solo home run against Coastal Carolina in the Clemson Regional finals that ignited a six-run eighth inning. He also belted a game-tying three-run home run in the ninth inning and made an all-time catch in the 10th against Florida in Game 2 of the Clemson Super Regional.
Cannarella earned All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association after hitting .337 with 11 home runs and 60 RBIs.
