Are the Bills a top 3 team? What NFL power rankings show for Buffalo, Miami in Week 2
The Buffalo Bills are heading to Florida to face the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night at Hard Rock Stadium.
Here's a look at what the NFL power ranking experts are saying about both teams.
USA Today
Bills ranking: 8 (⬆ from 13)
Dolphins ranking: 13 (⬆ from 16)
Bills: A little uneven defensively … as you'd expect. A little uneven in the passing game … as you'd expect. QB Josh Allen can still take over a game … as you'd expect.
Dolphins: They were fortunate to beat the self-sabotaging Jags. But the Fins certainly weren't fortunate to be dealing with the off-the-field circumstances surrounding All-Pro WR Tyreek Hill and others before kickoff. Understandable why they'd come out flat given the troubling details that continue to emerge regarding Hill's treatment by local police Sunday morning.
The Athletic
Bills ranking: 3 (⬆ from 8)
Dolphins ranking: 8 (⬆ from 14)
Bills: Josh Allen took the super-early MVP lead by throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for two more, including a vintage Josh Allen half-hurdle, half-bulldoze a defender. He’s now tied with Steve Young for most games in NFL history with multiple passing and rushing touchdowns (four). Nine Bills caught a pass, and rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman led the group with four catches for 51 yards. Linebacker Terrel Bernard helped fill the gap left by another Matt Milano injury by registering 11 tackles.
Dolphins: Tyreek Hill was handcuffed and detained outside the stadium just before the game after a traffic incident. He was released almost immediately and made it inside, where he had seven catches for 130 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown that he followed with a handcuff celebration. Tua Tagovailoa led all quarterbacks in Week 1 with 338 yards, and the Dolphins scored the game’s final 13 points to come from behind.

Bills: Josh Allen once again showed how valuable he is as a player with four combined touchdowns in the opener. Now he has a short week to get ready for Miami on the road, but he has owned the Dolphins in his career.
Dolphins: They didn't play great against the Jaguars, but found a way to pull it out with a game-winning field goal. Now comes their division nemesis in Josh Allen and the Bills on Thursday night.

Bills ranking: 7 (⬆ from 8)
Dolphins ranking: 9 (⬆ from 11)
Bills: Josh Allen could be on the front end of an MVP year.
Dolphins: They had to dig deep to win. That will serve them well later in the year.
The Sporting News
Bills ranking: 7 (⬆ from 8)
Dolphins ranking: 11 (⬆ from 13)
Bills: The Bills' defense battled through some key holes on the second level and in coverage, but it did enough for Josh Allen to take over vs. a much worse Cardinals defense.
Dolphins: The Dolphins didn't look pretty offensively with Tua Tagovailoa for much of the game, but Tyreek Hill didn't slow down when needed most and the defense tightened in the second half to cool the competitive Jaguars.

Bills: An excellent comeback win after a sluggish start that saw the Bills fall behind 17-3. The first half was shaky but once the cobwebs were shaken, the AFC East champs got it together. Josh Allen is a beast.
Dolphins: Tua Tagovailoa will remain the most underrated quarterback in the NFL for a while. Through Sunday's games, Tagovailoa's 338 yards led the NFL. He was one of only two quarterbacks over 300 yards in the opener. After the Dolphins fell behind, he played well in the second half. When the Dolphins had a shot to drive downfield and win the game, Tagovailoa hit a couple big passes to get Miami into field-goal range. Yes, Tagovailoa has great playmakers around him. He's pretty good too.
Sports Illustrated
Bills ranking: 4 (⬆ from 7)
Dolphins ranking: 12 (⬆ from 13)
Bills: The Bills got five quarterback hits and four sacks, three of them from Greg Rousseau. We can talk all we want about Josh Allen running and how much it scares us (and it does!). But, if Buffalo’s defense can play free and get after the quarterback like they’ve been trying to since the “13 Seconds” loss to Kansas City, we might have something here. It’s always encouraging to see a team that strips itself of familiar players find a new identity underneath, and there was definitely a freshness to this Bills victory.
Dolphins: The Dolphins faced some serious attrition early in the game. Mike McDaniel talks a lot about adversity and this is a nice yield sign for a team that normally outscores its opponents over the early months like they play in the Sun Belt. The Jaguars helped with some critical mistakes but, like the Bills, Miami got some critical contributions from a defense that needed some early-season flowers to build confidence.

Bills: Things got a little scary for the Buffalo Bills early against the Cardinals as they trailed 17-3 at home. But Josh Allen turned things around in the second half, and the Bills outlasted the Cardinals in one of the week's most fun games. Buffalo’s offense looked fantastic, but the defense was the biggest area of concern. That’ll need to be cleaned up quickly, given their upcoming schedule.
Dolphins: The Miami Dolphins usually have a big advantage in Week 1 playing in Miami, but they got a tough draw with the Jaguars in what turned out to be a fantastic game. Miami’s offensive line continues to be an issue, but it hit enough big plays to eventually put the Jaguars away. Miami has always been a good September team under Mike McDaniel, and that continued last weekend.

Bills: When the Bills decided to move on from Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this offseason, many wondered if Josh Allen would be able to shoulder the load for Buffalo’s offense. It’s safe to say that Allen aced his first test in Week 1. Despite a slow start and falling behind 10-0 to the Cardinals in the second quarter, Allen caught fire in the second half. Allen completed 18 of 23 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns while also adding 39 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Buffalo’s star quarterback spread the ball around, as nine different players recorded at least one reception against Arizona in Week 1. The Bills will head down to South Beach in Week 2 to take on the Dolphins.
Dolphins: The performance was not what was expected by the Dolphins, but they got the win in the end. After a sloppy first half on both sides of the ball saw the Dolphins go down 10 at the half, Miami rallied to outscore the Jags 13-0 after the break, holding Jacksonville to 105 total yards and six first downs. While it’s a nice come-from-behind win for Miami, you have to wonder why the offense struggled so much. After leading the NFL with an average of 5.1 yards per carry last year, the rushing game also wasn’t at its best, accruing just 81 yards on 25 carries. At halftime, the leading rusher was Tua Tagovailoa, which isn’t sustainable. Ultimately, Tua did his thing by throwing to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but he was also on the run a lot behind the line. The defense, while much better in the second half, will need to tighten up if they are to slow down Josh Allen and Bills on Thursday night. We will know a lot more about the Dolphins after Thursday night against a Bills team that has beaten them 11 of the last 12 times.
