Bengals attempted to claim Yannick Ngakoue on waiver wire
It turns out the Cincinnati Bengals tried to make a splash with an outside addition this week.
According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Bengals were one of just two teams to put in a waiver wire claim on pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue.
The other team, though, was the New England Patriots -- who had higher waiver wire priority and were awarded Ngakoue.
It's no secret that the Bengals need some help rushing the passer so that Trey Hendrickson isn't shouldering the workload alone. But it is a little surprising that the Bengals were willing to go this route after failing to address the need at the NFL trade deadline.
Also likely at play was the fact Ngakoue was a member of the Baltimore Ravens. Cincinnati's opponent on Thursday night was attempting to pass the veteran pass-rusher through waivers and back onto their practice squad, so the claim could have hurt an AFC North rival while also upgrading depth.
With Myles Murphy still seeing a limited number of snaps and the rotation as a whole struggling to create pressure, perhaps this is a sign the Bengals will continue to seek outside help at the problematic area.
