Who will be starting quarterback for the Bulldogs?

Last year, the Bulldogs had five players listed at the quarterback position with two splitting reps throughout the season. Cornelius Brown and Aveon Smith will be the first two options for the Bulldogs on Saturday. Brown only played in two games last season after suffering an injury.

Brown, originally from Birmingham, transferred to Alabama A&M last year from UT Martin. In the 2022 season, he played in seven games for the Skyhawks at quarterback helping lead the team to the OVC Championship. He also competed against high level FBS schools completing two passes against Boise State and No. 3 Tennessee that season.

The 6-foot-5, 220-pound, dual-threat quarterback will use his frame to his advantage in efforts to extend plays using his legs.

NFL prospect on offensive line

Junior left tackle Carson Vinson is currently projected as a fourth-round draft pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He received Phil Steele SWAC first team honors last season and selected to the 100th Annual East-West Shrine Bowl 1,000. He also was named to the Reese's Senior Bowl watchlist prior to the 2024 season.

Vinson helped the Bulldogs offense last season average 374.6 yards per game, including 221.1 yards in the air. His play helped Alabama A&M to No. 1 in the conference in red zone offense.

Other skill players to watch for

Wide receiver Jacolby Hewitt played in nine games and registered 32 receptions for 516 yards and four touchdowns last season. He averaged 65.3 yards per game and 16.1 yards per catch.

Donovan Elgin finished with 845 all-purpose yards with seven touchdowns, earning him SWAC First Team Preseason and BOXTOROW Preseason All-America honors.  On the ground, Eaglin carried the ball 142 times for 765 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per touch and 76.5 yards per game.

Cornerback Emari Pait tallied 49 tackles, including 31 solo stops. He finished with 1.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two pass breakups. Pait ranked third in nation and first in the SWAC in fumbles recovered and 13th in the FCS, while second in the SWAC in interceptions per game.

Score prediction

Auburn 56, Alabama A&M 0: With it being the season opener, both teams are a bit of a mystery, but history shows that Auburn is by far the superior team in this series. Auburn's defense should have a strong day and with an opponent like Alabama A&M, the offense will have ample opportunities for big plays down the field.
