American Heritage running back Byron Louis verbally pledges to Florida State football

Four-star running back Byron Louis announced on Saturday night that he has verbally committed to Florida State football.

Louis will be the 12th player to commit to FSU in the class of 2025.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound senior back out of American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida, selected FSU over Georgia, Miami, and Wisconsin.

He is ranked as the top running back on the USA Today Florida Network Top 100 and No. 25 in the state. Louis didn't factor FSU's losing slump when making his decision.

“I mean, three games don’t define them,” Louis told USA Today.

“Same with our three games (losses) don’t define us. At the end of the day, that’s a great program. That history is amazing. Honestly, it’s still a good school. Like I said, three games don’t define them.”

Louis also told USA Today that he looked at the current running backs on FSU's roster. He mentioned that the three seniors, Roydell Williams, Alabama transfer Lawrance Toafili, and Caziah Holmes, are expecting to depart after this season.

It allows the high school senior to seek playing time right away. Adding Louis will provide more depth in a much younger running back room next year.

FSU's true freshman running back, Kam Davis, has seen significant snaps in his first season. Tallahassee native Micahi Danzy moved up in the depth chart after losing Indiana transfer Jaylin Lucas due to a season-ending injury. Redshirt freshman Samuel Singleton Jr. is also in the mix.

According to Louis, Mike Norvell and DB coach Patrick Surtain, a former head coach at American Heritage, stayed on top of the running backs.

If he pledges to FSU, he will join his high school teammate and DB Zae Thomas, who committed to FSU on June 30.

FSU defeated Cal 14-9 on Saturday to improve 1-3.
