Alabama-Georgia football history: What are the most memorable Crimson Tide vs Bulldogs games?
Alabama football and Georgia are about to add another game to the history books.
The No. 4 Crimson Tide will host the No. 1 Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium for the pair's fifth top-five meeting since 2018.
It's a rivalry rich in tradition well past recent SEC Championship and College Football Playoff National Championship meetings. It's a rivalry Alabama has dominated, holding a 43-26-4 advantage over Georgia including a win in their most recent meeting.
Here's a look at the seven games that have defined the Bulldogs-Crimson Tide rivalry.
Dec. 2, 2023: No. 8 Alabama 27, No. 1 Georgia 24
Going into the 2023 SEC Championship as at least a 5-point underdog according to most sportsbooks, Alabama made a statement in its last meeting with Georgia. The Crimson Tide beat the Bulldogs 27-24 to secure its eighth appearance in the College Football Playoff and to snuff Georgia's attempt at a third-straight national championship.
Holding onto a 20-10 lead after three quarters, helped by two touchdown passes from quarterback Jalen Milroe, Georgia attempted a fourth-quarter comeback with a pair of 1-yard scores by quarterback Carson Beck and running back Kendall Milton. But a 30-yard Milroe run with less than three minutes left secured the Crimson Tide's 30th SEC title.
Jan. 10, 2022: No. 3 Georgia 33, No. 1 Alabama 18
Georgia's only win against Alabama in the past 16 years was a big one for the Bulldogs.
Trailing 18-13 with less than 10 minutes left, two touchdown passes from quarterback Stetson Bennett, and a 79-yard interception return for a touchdown by Kelee Ringo, gave Georgia its first national championship since 1980.
Before the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship, Alabama had beaten Georgia seven straight times between 2008-21.
Jan. 8, 2018: No. 4 Alabama 26, No. 3 Georgia 23
Georgia coach Kirby Smart's first appearance against Alabama did not end well for Georgia.
In the 2018 College Football National Championship, the Bulldogs took a 20-7 third-quarter lead that was erased by two Andy Pappanastos field goals and a 7-yard touchdown pass from Tua Tagovailoa to Calvin Ridley to secure overtime. And after Rodrigo Blankenship gave Georgia an overtime lead with a 51-yard field goal, the Crimson Tide secured its 17th national title on a 41-yard touchdown pass from Tagovailoa to DeVonta Smith.
Sept. 22, 2007: No. 21 Georgia 26, No. 20 Alabama 23
Alabama came up short in coach Nick Saban's first meeting against Georgia.
Trailing 20-10 early in the fourth quarter, Alabama used two Leigh Tiffin field goals and a 6-yard touchdown run by quarterback John Parker Wilson to tie the game and force overtime. But a 42-yard field goal was not enough to secure the Crimson Tide win. Matthew Stafford threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Mikey Henderson for the Georgia win.
