Who is Alabama football's backup right tackle behind Wilkin Formby?

Penalties have once again plagued the Alabama football offensive line in its game against South Florida, especially from the right side.

In the first half alone, the Crimson Tide's offensive line accounted for six of Alabama's seven penalties for 40 yards, with right guard Wilkin Formby accounting for two of those. Both were holding calls, with the second bringing back a 74-yard Jalen Milroe touchdown run in the second quarter. Formby also had another holding penalty in the second quarter, but it was offset by a South Florida pass interference call.

Formby is making his second start at right tackle for the Crimson Tide after battling for the starting spot with Elijah Pritchett through camp. Formby played a fairly clean game against Western Kentucky but has struggled in the first half against South Florida. Pritchett actually started in last week's game, but at left tackle for an injured Kadyn Proctor. He did not see time on the field in the first half vs. South Florida.

Formby is not the only member of Alabama's offensive line struggling with penalties. Left guard Geno VanDeMark was responsible for three — two holding penalties and one false start — with his first holding penalty nullifying a 21-yard touchdown run by Justice Haynes. Tyler Booker, who is manning the left tackle spot vs. USF, was also called for a false start.

Milroe had the only remaining Crimson Tide penalty in the first half, an intentional grounding call in the second quarter.

Proctor's injury has affected the Alabama offensive line starting rotation. Pritchett started at left tackle vs. Western Kentucky, but coaches opted to put Booker in the left tackle spot vs. South Florida with VanDeMark filling in Booker's normal spot at left guard.

Chris Kapilovic is Alabama football's offensive line coach.
