With Christian McCaffrey ruled out before kickoff for Monday Night Football against the New York Jets, Kyle Shanahan's offense needed someone to step up. Throughout the first half of the regular season opener, the 49ers' versatile weapon Deebo Samuel was heavily involved out of the backfield.

However, through the first quarter and multiple drives, the 49ers couldn't find the endzone, settling for two field goals. However, in the second quarter, the 49ers got on the board for the first time in the 2024 season, thanks to their do-everything wide receiver.

Following multiple penalties in the red zone on a long drive that included multiple impressive runs from Jordan Mason, Samuel was the one to punch in the 49ers' first touchdown of the 2024 campaign. Samuel took the ball on a sweep around the right edge for a short touchdown.

Last season, Samuel punched in five touchdowns on 37 attempts from the backfield.
