Joo Chiat’s renowned food court opens with a fresh new rebrand

I might be biased, but my recent move to the East Coast has opened my eyes to a diverse food scene. Some say it’s arguably the best in Singapore. What better way than checking out Joo Chiat’s latest opening Chew n Chat Food Court, at the site of what was formerly Joo Chiat Complex Food Centre?

It has 16 stalls, including drinks, but keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks as some stalls have yet to open. Fans of the area from before the rebrand will be thrilled to hear that some local favourites are already in operation!

These include Pondok Ambeng and Ayam Penyet, which have been serving diners for over 25 years! Teratai, which serves yong tau foo, tahu goreng and popiah basah still remain!

One new stall you would want to look out for is PangiNut, that serves Peranakan-Western fusion delights. Some may recognise that it was previously located at Ang Mo Kio, where my colleague Aaron visited earlier this year. It closed its doors in Jun, and owner Jarrod has now found a new home in Chew n Chat Food Court.

Offering a variety of Western classics, some of his menu offerings weave in Nyonya flavours. These include the Rendang Beef Burger (S$7), Sambal Tumis Fish (S$8.80) and Buah Keluak Chicken Pizza (S$15). I had the opportunity to savour one of their new menu items, Rendang Chicken Chop (S$8.80)

From the corner of my eye, I spotted a stall with bright neon lights, which turned out to be Jay & Twins Kunafa. Having previously savoured kunafas in Pasar Malams, the owner stated that this is Singapore’s first kunafa stall in a food court outside of Pasar Malams

This unique stall also serves Singapore’s first double and triple-layer kunafa. It starts at an affordable price of S$13 and you won’t be able to find them anywhere else. Look out for the Lotus Biscoff Kunafa, White Chocolate Kunafa & the Pistachio Kunafa which I got to indulge in.
