A Reddit user says she won't change her newborn son's name, despite the fact that her husband isn't too fond of the spelling.

In a post shared to Reddit, the woman writes that the baby is the couple's second child, and that his name was meant to be her husband's choice.

"I told my husband that he could pick the first name for our second child since I picked the first name for our first child," she writes.

But throughout the course of her pregnancy, her husband "kept blowing me off" about the name, she adds.

"So I backed off, until we hit the third trimester and then I asked him again," she writes. "So I came up with a list of names with one name in particular that I loved. The name was Matteo and its meaning is 'gift of God.' "

When she mentioned the name to her husband, he seemed to like it — though the couple didn't nail anything down.

Soon after, the woman mentioned to a relative that she loved the name Matteo and it took off, with many family members beginning to call the couple's unborn child Matteo.

"This pissed my husband off immensely and he demanded we take the name off the table," she writes. "I understood, I was disappointed but understood."

But come delivery day, the husband said he wanted them to pick from one of two names — Matteo or Liam. Following a 15-hour "difficult delivery," she writes, her husband said "that he liked Matteo but didn’t want our son to be called Matt."

"I said ok, that’s a nickname we won’t use and he was ok with my response," she adds. "I fill out form while he’s there but he doesn’t look at it and leaves the hospital room."

Later, the husband took a closer look at the birth certificate, and noticed the spelling. "He wanted the spelling 'Mateo' not 'Matteo' and said I should have known that because he didn’t want our son to be called Matt," she shares.

The wife, however, prefers Mateo.

Now, her husband is "holding this over my head," but she remains steadfast: "I told him that I wasn’t changing the name or chasing down the birth registers office to change it either. I made the official announcement to friends and family with the Matteo name."

Fellow Reddit users are chiming in on the woman's decision, with some arguing that the husband "should’ve taken the initiative when it came to coming up with a name if he’s gonna throw such a fit over it."

Adds another: "You don’t get to forfeit your part in a debate, then complain about the outcome. This is entirely a problem of his own creation, that exists for no one but him."
