A brother is refusing to go to his sister’s fourth wedding ceremony.

The man shared in a post on Reddit’s popular "Am I The A------" forum that his 39-year-old sister Emily was planning a third wedding to her husband after her first two tries at the altar were not as successful as she had hoped.

He explained that her sister was a widower who lost her husband a few years after she married him at the age of 20. They had two children before he passed, and she eventually found love again “at a group for widowed parents” with a man named John, who had three children of his own with his late wife.

He noted that the pair got married seven months into the relationship and their kids “were unhappy" and as a result they acted out and "ruined the wedding." According to the poster, his sister and new groom “felt their day had been overshadowed” by their kids.

"The photos were a mess because the kids didn't want to be in them, wouldn't smile, there was fighting, etc. They wouldn't sit together and one of them knocked over the wedding cake,” the man explained.

He said that the family went to therapy and tried to “redo their wedding and try to make it perfect the second time around,” but again their efforts were thwarted by the kids who were “still unhappy.” He noted that the wedding was “miserable” for the couple again as “they had not created a blended family like they wanted.”

The couple has since welcomed a daughter together and now Emily is expecting again. Now they're considering having another go at a wedding “once their last child is here.” However, the event is something which the Redditor said he doesn’t want to attend as “their household is intense and messy and not happy in the slightest.”

“I made it clear I won't be attending this fourth wedding,” he explained. “Emily told me I should be a supportive younger brother and come to the next wedding. I told her I was at her other three and I didn't want to attend several more of her weddings because she's trying to create a happy image when her family isn't happy.”

“She told me I should be willing to attend as many as it takes and this next one is hopefully going to be it,” he continued. “She told me I shouldn't be judging her anyway. That she's doing her best.”

He then opened the forum to other commenters to give their opinion on what he should do. Several Redditors sided with him, including one person who wrote that “4 weddings is ridiculous, especially when 3 of them are to the same person.” They added, “I hope they’re not expecting gifts for their wedding.”

Another said, “Are the kids coming to this next wedding? If they are, then your sister and BIL are likely wasting their time (and money). If this next wedding is without the kids, then it would probably be worth attending.”

One Redditor suggested that the man’s sister “could save a lot of money and time by just booking a family photographer once a year and wearing nice clothes.” They continued, “She could even spring for individual shots of the kids being happy and then photoshopping them all together.”
