Bride's Sister Refuses to Replace Wedding Dress After Spilling Wine on It During Reception
The woman took to Reddit to explain her side of the story, recalling that the bride "was really upset, and I felt awful"
When a bride asked her sister to replace her wedding dress that she covered with red wine, she refused.
In a post on Reddit's "Am I the A------?" forum, a woman explained how she accidentally spilled a glass of red wine all down the front of her sister's wedding gown during the latter's reception. The bride had asked her to hold her drink when suddenly her cousin surprised her with a hug from behind, causing the wine to splash out of her hand and onto the dress.
"She was really upset, and I felt awful," recalled the woman, who was her sister's maid of honor.
She continued: "After the wedding, she called and asked me to cover the cost of a new dress or at least pay for cleaning. I get why she’s upset, but it was an accident, and I can’t afford to replace it — her dress was thousands of dollars, and I’m saving up for a house. I offered to pay for the cleaning, but she says it’s not enough."
For the bride, her wedding was a "huge deal." She had been planning it for more than a year, so her dress was important to her. Although her sister understands why she's upset and wants the dress fixed, she argues that the demand to buy a new one is excessive.

"Some family members think I should pay since I was holding the wine, while others think she’s overreacting," the sister wrote. "I feel bad, but I’m not sure I should be responsible for the full amount."
She asked the forum: "AITA for not agreeing to buy her a new dress?"

Redditors were united in their responses, commenting that she shouldn't have to buy an entire new dress and that a cleaning fee should suffice. They also felt like the cousin who was partially responsible for the wine spilling should also be held accountable.
"Why exactly is cleaning not enough? It makes no sense to buy a new dress. NTA," one user commented, with another adding, "Definitely pay to get it cleaned. Don’t understand the logic of buying a new dress that she will never use as the wedding is over. NTA."
"Why isn't the cousin paying?" a Redditor questioned. "She's the one who caused all this."
