San Jose Sharks arena employee tests positive for coronavirus
A part-time employee at San Jose’s SAP Center has tested positive for COVID-19, the Sharks announced Thursday.
“This person is under self-quarantine and receiving care from medical professionals. We have been informed that this employee is recovering and feeling better.”
The individual last worked at the arena on March 3 when San Jose hosted the Toronto Maple Leafs, prior to Santa Clara Public Health Department's recommendation to cancel events with over 1,000 people.
The Sharks were the first team to take precautions earlier this week, announcing that all home games in March would be held without fans. This of course was before the NHL decided to suspend operations on Thursday afternoon with hopes “to resume play as soon as it is appropriate and prudent.”
No NHL player or staff member has tested positive for COVID-19 at this point.
