Entire Chelsea team to self-quarantine after Callum Hudson-Odoi tests positive for coronavirus
The coronavirus has resulted in the quarantine of the entire Chelsea team after one of its members tested positive for the virus.
Winger Callum Hudson-Odoi’s test came up positive Thursday night, prompting the club to have all personnel who had recent close contact with the 19-year-old to self-isolate, Chelsea announced.
That reportedly includes, at least initially, the entire men’s team and coaching staff. The men’s team building will also be shut down during the quarantine.
The club reports that Hudson-Odio had symptoms similar to a mild cold on Monday and had not been on the club’s training ground since.
Arsenal manager also tests positive
Hudson-Odio was the second major figure in the Premier League to test positive, joining Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.
Similar to Chelsea, all Arsenal personnel to make recent contact with Arteta will self-isolate. Arteta tested positive for the virus earlier on Thursday, less than an hour after the Premier League announced it would go ahead with weekend matches.
Premier League on brink of suspending season
Once news broke of Arteta’s test, the Premier League issued a statement announcing an emergency club meeting on Friday to discuss the matter. It also announced Saturday’s fixture between Arsenal and Brighton had also been postponed, the second Arsenal match to be postponed.
With another team under quarantine and players on Leicester City and Manchester City also self-isolating, it’s hard to see that meeting resulting in anything other than a suspension of the season.
