Land Rover long ago made its reputation based on stock off-road capability. Pre-runner designer Morgan Clarke Designs is looking to take that inherent ability to a new level, though: the shop is combining the product of that rich history with the power that comes from a Lamborghini engine. The result is a V-10-powered Land Rover Range Rover Velar — one with Dakar dreams.

Outwardly, the Dakar Prototype, as it's appropriately called, looks halfway like a regular Range Rover Velar. Under the skin, the chassis is mostly 4130 chromoly steel 2-inch tubing all tig-welded at MCD. Giant King bypass shocks support the vehicle on its desert-ready tires.

The front end has a huge approach angle and the rear wheel arches are enlarged. They also feature enough protection to keep internal bits safe and sound — including, and importantly, the vital 5.2-liter Lamborghini V10 that sits way at the aft of this creation.

Built originally for a Huracan, the V-10 is a Stage 3 unit from Underground Racing, built to handle abuse in tough conditions. MCD says it expects the motor to make somewhere in the neighborhood of 1600 horsepower when it's finished.

As of this story's publication, the team says it still has a lot of work to do: they need to plumb all of the piping that'll go to and from the turbos, build the exhaust, and route all of it. Thankfully, that's the last major hurdle before testing is expected to begin in January of 2025. We can't wait to see (and hear) this monster tearing up dunes in the near future.
