Dodge Taps The Nostalgia Well For SEMA Muscle Car

Dodge has dropped a teaser image for its upcoming SEMA build and some people are losing their minds, declaring it the future of muscle cars or some nonsense. We’ve seen this type of thing year after year, but it’s like everyone else has the memory of a goldfish.

Camaro owner leaves his muscle car idling outside a club, is shocked it gets stolen.

Every year, Stellantis teases the builds it’s bringing to SEMA, just like how it teases Jeep builds ahead of the Easter Safari in Moab. And every year automotive journalists as well as some regular people lose their minds over a closeup of a rendering.

Sometimes the builds turn out to be really cool, but not always. Unfortunately, we have a bad feeling this is going to fall into the “not always” category. Sure, the portion of the car’s front end we see in the teaser looks like an old Plymouth Satellite, but we think this is what we call “nostalgia mining.”

Just like on South Park, Dodge is really hoping you’ll partake of the “Member Berries” and just get excited for something nostalgic-looking without asking questions or thinking at all. We’re here to bust up the groupthink and play devil’s advocate because someone has to do it.

One possibility people are throwing around is this might be an electrified Satellite. That might be and it could be used to announce a new Mopar electric powertrain in a crate, but that’s been done by other brands and it hasn’t really caught on. There’s an excellent reason for that (hint: it has to do with money).

Others think this might be a classic outfitted with the Hurricrate engine, or the twin-turbo Hurricane crate engine. Considering that thing sounds awful, is a six-cylinder, and doesn’t produce that impressive of performance, we wouldn’t even begin to call this a muscle car.

Finally, there’s the outside chance Dodge has modified a ’24 Charger Daytona to look like an old Plymouth Satellite. That might be dumb enough to be spot on.

None of these would constitute the future of muscle cars. It won’t be long before we see what this rendering portrays in real life.
