A family in Kalihi, Oahu, Hawaii is asking for the public’s help locating their dark blue 2000 Toyota Tacoma which was stolen recently. The truck was originally gifted to the son by his father for his Make-A-Wish while battling cancer. That didn’t matter to thieves, who just took it and disappeared without a trace.

Classic Oldsmobile does a hit-and-run in San Francisco.

It happened late on a Sunday night as the truck sat at a repair shop. Even though it was behind a locked gate, the thieves were able to get through that and drive the Toyota away. We see repair shop thefts all the time, sadly.

The theft was caught on some of the most pixilated surveillance footage we’ve seen in years. It’s hard to make out exactly how the thieves stole the truck, let alone their identities or even what vehicle they arrived in.

This is why we advocate for businesses as well as individuals to use cameras capable of recording in HD, at least. Those details really make a difference in the event someone does commit a crime and police need to study the footage.

The family has been trying to spread the word with the hope someone who knows where it is steps forward and tells police about it. That would be nice considering the Tacoma holds a tremendous amount of sentimental value for the family.

We understand whoever stole this Toyota probably had no idea it was given to a kid battling cancer. Sadly, we question if the thieves would’ve hesitated for even a moment if they did know that. After all, we’ve seen criminals steal cars from hospital parking lots, traumatizing people who are sick, going through treatments, or are visiting a loved one clinging to life.

Hopefully the family is able to get this Toyota Tacoma back in one piece.
