Ferrari is on schedule to reveal its first fully electric supercar by the fourth quarter of 2025, according to CEO Benedetto Vigna. Speaking at the Italian Tech Week in Turin, Vigna expressed confidence in the project’s progress, noting that Ferrari is working with some “unusual partners” to bring the high-performance EV to life, although he did not provide further details.
The announcement comes as the luxury automotive sector faces the challenge of reducing emissions while navigating a cooling demand for electric vehicles (EVs). Ferrari’s entry into the EV market will coincide with a critical time for the industry, as European automakers grapple with increasing competition from China, particularly in battery cell production.
Ferrari has been seen as a cautious player in the electric transition, with its late entry potentially working to its advantage. As major European manufacturers like Stellantis and Volkswagen scale back their battery production projects, Ferrari’s calculated approach may help it avoid some of the challenges currently facing the EV market.
Vigna, who joined Ferrari in 2021 after a career at STMicroelectronics, has been instrumental in shaping Ferrari’s strategy toward electrification. While many of Ferrari’s younger customers are embracing the shift to electric, some of the brand’s more traditional clients remain hesitant, particularly over concerns about losing the signature roar of Ferrari’s iconic internal combustion engines.
