15 Year-Old Leads Cops On 70-Mile Chase In Stolen C6 Corvette

A 15-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were arrested earlier this month after allegedly leading San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies on a 70-mile pursuit in a stolen Chevrolet Corvette California.

According to Fox 11 News, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop with the C6-generation Chevrolet Corvette around 10 p.m. on October 11, but the underaged driver of the car refused to stop. The teen then reportedly sped away from the deputies, initiating a pursuit that continyed for nearly 70 miles around the nation's largest county. The chase came to a close when the teenage driver reportedly lost control of the sports car, crashing into a large fence in El Monte, California.

It's hard to identify exactly which variant of the C6 was involved is from the footage; that said, even the least-potent version of the sixth-generation Corvette featured a 6.0-liter LS2 V-8, which produced an even 400 hp and 400 lb-ft. It’s not that difficult to see why an underage, inexperienced driver might struggle to keep any modern Corvette under control.

Both occupants of the Corvette were taken into custody without incident following the crash. The car doesn’t look to be in great shape following the chase, the nose appearing to be smashed up after meeting the metal barrier. Here’s hoping the car’s rightful owner is made whole after insurance does its thing. (Heck, with used C8 Corvette prices dropping faster than its predecessor, they might even be able to score a solid deal on a new model.)
