Anthony Hopkins is set to take on a new role in Maserati: The Brothers, an upcoming biopic directed by Bobby Moresco. The film will chronicle the lives of the Maserati family, who were instrumental in shaping Italy’s luxury car industry, alongside brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini. Hopkins will portray an Italian financier who supports the Maserati brothers in their pursuit of building one of the most iconic automotive brands in the world.
Produced by Andrea Iervolino’s new film and TV outfit, The Andrea Iervolino Company, Maserati: The Brothers follows in the footsteps of Iervolino’s previous collaborations, including Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend and Ferrari, both of which explored the stories behind Italy’s elite carmakers. Iervolino expressed his excitement about working with Hopkins, stating, “Having Anthony Hopkins on board is a dream come true. His unparalleled ability to embody complex characters will undoubtedly elevate our story.”
The Maserati brothers—Alfieri, Ettore, and Ernesto—founded Maserati in 1914 in Bologna, Italy. The trident logo, inspired by the Fountain of Neptune in Bologna, became a symbol of luxury and performance. The Maserati family’s early ties to auto racing played a crucial role in the brand's evolution, including the creation of their first Grand Prix car, the Type 26. Alfieri Maserati tragically passed away in 1932, a few years after a near-fatal racing accident that left him with lasting complications.
While the Maserati brothers later sold a controlling interest in their company, they remained involved, and the brand eventually became part of the Fiat family. With Hopkins at the helm, Maserati: The Brothers promises to be a compelling portrayal of passion, innovation, and legacy.
