Sophisticated Woolworths scam rears ugly head
“To celebrate our anniversary this year, we will be awarding 250 lucky fans with a full year of free groceries.”
It sounds like a fantastic opportunity, but this Facebook post - purportedly from ‘Woolworths Club’ - is a dangerous scam once again doing the rounds.

The scam, which offers a ‘Free Year of Groceries’ appeared in June this year, leading Woolworths to demand Facebook take down the posts from a Facebook page titled Woolworths Fans.
At the time, that page had more than 25,000 followers, despite not being associated with the supermarket.
"We have contacted Facebook to ask for the page to be taken down promptly," a Woolworths spokesperson said.
"We encourage our customers to be vigilant of online phishing scams, which seek to imitate well-known brands to collect personal information."
But the scam has popped up again, this time from a page titled Woolworths Club.
The post calls for shoppers to share the post and comment on it before 15 December to ‘win’, with the post now being commented on more than 30,000 times.
However, it is a scam.
In a comment to a concerned shopper, Woolworths said the page has been reported to the ACCC’s ScamWatch.
It also said to email hoax@woolworths.com.au with any scam messages victims may have received.
