Woolworths tells Facebook to remove 'free groceries' scam
A Facebook scam offering Australians "one full year of fᴦее groceries" from Woolworths has alarmed the supermarket chain.
The post, which asks people to share and comment to enter the "competition", originates from a Facebook page titled Woolworths Fans (@wooliesfans).
The page has more than 25,000 followers but is not an official fan club and is not associated with the supermarket in any way.
Woolworths has urged Australians to ignore these posts and has demanded Facebook remove the unauthorised group.
"We have contacted Facebook to ask for the page to be taken down promptly," a Woolworths spokesperson said.

"We encourage our customers to be vigilant of online phishing scams, which seek to imitate well-known brands to collect personal information."
Savvy social media users already detected that Woolworths Fans' page as a scam. One particular photo it uses to promote the "one year of free groceries" competition shows a stack of boxes with the Woolworths logo clearly edited onto them.
"Woolworths Fans page is a scam so please stop liking and sharing guys, you will NOT win a year's worth of groceries," one social media user said.
The supermarket giant says it reports all scams using its name to the consumer watchdog, but customers must be careful with fake pages that look very convincing.
"They are often specially designed to look genuine, and often copy features from legitimate communications such as our logo and branding."
