Man with fake $50 notes allegedly went on 8-day shopping spree

A man in southern NSW has been charged with 11 offences relating to counterfeit money.

The 40-year-old is accused of using fake $50 notes for eight days at various retail and food stores in the Young area.

The counterfeit notes were reported to police after his purchases, which resulted in the man's arrest at the village of Harden.

He and his car were then searched, which showed up one fake $50 note. A raid of his Harden home found further "items of interest".

The man was charged with six counts of possessing counterfeit money and five counts of knowingly using counterfeit money.

He was released on bail and is scheduled to appear at Young Local Court on Tuesday July 16.

Police investigations are continuing into other similar counterfeit money incidents around the Young and Yass area.
