Zara Tindall opens up about the impact her miscarriages had on husband Mike
Zara Tindall has revealed her husband Mike felt “helpless” after her devastating miscarriages, between the births of their daughters Mia and Lena.
In an interview with BBC Breakfast, the Queen’s granddaughter bravely opened up about the impact on their family and how the loss can affect fathers too.
She said: “It’s very different for us because we’re carrying the child.
“But for guys I guess it’s kind of that helpless feeling, which must be incredibly high and horrible for them.”
“At the end of the day, they’ve still lost a child too.”
The couple lost a baby before Christmas 2016, around four months into Zara’s pregnancy. It was then revealed, in July this year, that she had suffered another miscarriage before becoming pregnant with second daughter Lena, who was born in June.
Looking close to tears, Zara revealed it had been a ‘horrible road, but now we’ve come out the end of it and hopefully it makes you a stronger family.’
The Miscarriage Association tweeted: “Thanks to Zara Tindall for talking about the experience of miscarriage on BBC Breakfast today and highlighting the needs of partners too.”
In a piece in The Sunday Times back in July, Zara said that loads of people had written to them about their first loss in 2016, to say that they had been through the same thing.
She also spoke about how the royal family had helped her cope during that difficult time.
“It was a time when my family came to the fore and I needed them,” she said.
“I had to go through having the baby because it was so far along.”
