Prince Harry and Meghan Markle show support for mental health and veteran charities at concert
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the 100 Days to Peace concert at Westminster Central Hall, in London, on Thursday night.
Presented by the Royal Armouries, the one-off concert was an evening of music and reflection in aid of three charities all working to support military veterans facing mental health challenges.
Proceeds from the gala will go towards Help for Heroes, Combat Stress, and Heads Together.
It also marked the centenary of the end of the First World War.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrived hand-in-hand, with the Duchess wearing a beautiful royal blue Jason Wu and bejewelled Aquazurra sling-back heels.
The couple were greeted by former Army chief Lord Dannatt and his wife Lady Philippa, both of whom attended the Harry and Meghan’s wedding, back in May.
They stood for the national anthem in the Great Hall, before taking their seats and were treated to a performance of world-famous composer Sir Karl Jenkins’ internationally-acclaimed: ‘The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace.’
Lesley Garrett hosted the gala and performed two songs – ‘He Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven’ (a WB Yeats poem published in 1899) and the opening lines from ‘For The Fallen.’
Ms Garrett praised Harry for highlighting mental health issues and supporting veterans.
She said: “We did sign up before we knew Prince Harry and Meghan would be here.
“It’s so important to support these amazing charities.”
The evening also featured The Royal Choral Society, the Philharmonia Orchestra and soloist mezzo soprano Kathryn Rudge.
During the intermission, Harry and Meghan met with some of the performers in the Presidents Room.
The event comes after the Duke and Duchess attended the WellChild awards on Tuesday night, where the pair met some of the inspirational winners.
Harry paid tribute to the recipients of the awards, their families and the charity in a heartfelt speech. He has been the WellChild patron since 2007.
