Why there won't be a prenup before Princess Eugenie's wedding
As the next royal wedding draws ever closer, it’s been revealed that there likely won’t be any kind of prenup agreement between Princess Eugenie and fiancé Jack Brooksbank.
It may come as a surprise, but according to royal expert Katie Nicholl, members of the royal family don’t tend to sign anything before getting married.
“It’s commonplace with celebrity marriage, but this is not a celebrity marriage, it’s a royal marriage,” the author of Harry: Life, Loss, and Love told Town & Country.
Even though three of the Queen’s four children have gone through divorces, none of them had prenuptial agreements in place.
And despite their parents’ difficult divorce, it is almost certain that neither Prince William or Prince Harry signed a document when they married their wives, despite reports of prenups at the time.
Prior to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May, rumours circulated that the Queen ‘asked Meghan to sign a prenup’ before marrying Prince Harry.
According to palace insiders Meghan was said to have been ‘only too happy’ to sign on the dotted line.
“She doesn’t want anyone thinking that she’s entered into the marriage with bad intentions, especially the Queen,” the insider told New Idea.
“The only clause that she asked was that the Queen not discuss it with any other senior royals, such as Charles and William. She wanted it confidential.”
With the next royal wedding around the corner, last week the extravagant cost to taxpayers for Princess Eugenie’s wedding was revealed and sparked outrage.
Taxpayers will be forking out a good £2million for the security at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, the same venue where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot in May, The Mirror reports.
