There are 12 zodiac star signs that many believe explain a lot about a person, outlining strengths, weaknesses and ambitions.

They're based on four elements that are influenced by a specific constellation of planets - air, fire, water and earth - each correlating with one another to make up your unique personality trait.

So, what dates does each star sign include and what does yours say about you?

Aquarius: January 20 - February 18

"Aquarius is a quirky sign: artistic, original and creative by nature," says psychic and astrologer Inbaal Honigman.

You love people and express that by actively making time for your friends and family.

The air element shows you are innovative in your ideas and always coming up with original ideas to solve problems.

You are devoted to social justice and activism and hold humanitarian values. You care about the bigger issues, as an empath you want to see positive change in the world.

Pisces: February 19 - March 20

The last of the zodiac star signs, Pisces are loving, romantic and believe in miracles.

"Pisces are deeply sensitive and empathic- known to cry about anything, they tend to be an emotional eater because they feel everything intensely and find comfort in food," states psychic Inbaal.

You are intuitive, artistic and generous with your emotions. You are ruled by Jupiter meaning generosity is in your nature. However, because it’s in your blood to be compassionate and caring, you also seek that in other people- often leading to disappointments and heartbreak.

Aries: March 21 - April 19

"Aries are the babies of the zodiac known for being very playful and energetic" says Honigman

Aries tend to be very active, into fitness and your fire element makes you always on the go. When it comes to eating, you are more of a grazier than a heavy eater, you much prefer to eat in smaller portions.

Thanks to your playful and cheerful nature, when you’re around other people your energy is infectious.

Taurus: April 20 - May 2

"Taurus is an earth sign, known for being practical and grounded, they are intelligent and studious," says Inbaal.

Your ability to stay grounded is valued by those around you. Being a Taurus can be a tiring job, and to reward yourself, you often go for massages and fancy restaurants.

Ruled by the planet Venus (planet of love), you are calm, yet sensuous, you know what you want and aren’t afraid to go after it. Your practical nature allows you to make fair judgement.

You are a big foodie, often booking tables in restaurants weeks in advance, taking pictures of your food and writing reviews.

Gemini: May 21 - June 20

Make way for the party animals! Being a Gemini is a non-stop party. You are sociable, always out and about and you enjoy being in the company of loads of friends. Equally, you have many friendship circles all very different with distinct personalities and interests.

"Gemini's are all about having a good time with many social engagements and they enjoy talking to people about anything," Honigman says.

As you are an Air sign, you are ruled by the planet Mercury, the planet that represents intellect and curiosity. You are fiercely clever and constantly want to build knowledge and although you enjoy being sociable, you know when it’s time to get serious.

Cancer: June 21 - July 22

"Cancer is family minded, they are known to be indoorsey and love hosting people around their house, they are at their happiest when the house is full of guests," says Inbaal.

You are intuitive and emotional, this is because you belong to the water element of the zodiac. You carry emotional depth and understand others very well.

Leo: July 23 - August 22

Leo’s are born leaders, you thrive when taking command and that’s what makes you special.

You are ruled by the sun which makes you full of life and bold.

"Leo's don’t let anyone take their shine and feel comfortable being in the spotlight," said astrologer Inbaal.

Because of your dominant nature, your honesty can often come across as blunt and arrogant, unfortunately you are not going to be everyone’s cup of tea- and that’s okay!

You are proud and will always be the first to celebrate yourself.

You come from the fire element which is represented by the lion-powerful, king (or queen) of the jungle, and just like the lion's mane, you have phenomenal hair.

For the most part, you are funny and vibrant and a joy to be around.

Virgo: August 23 - September 22

"Virgo is the tidiest sign of them all, they are all about the neatness and clean space" says Inbaal.

You hate mess and even go as far as organising the way you think- a true perfectionist. Everything needs to be in order for you and this is because you are ruled by planet Mercury.

As an earth sign, you are an excellent problem solver- an ideal person to have around to construct the dreaded Ikea furniture. By nature you are a peacemaker, logical and sensible.

Libra: September 23 - October 22

Libra is symbolised by the scale, just like the court system, you seek for justice and is known for being a peaceful communicator.

"Leo's are good at understanding both sides of the argument and want to figure out a solution that will suit everyone," says Inbaal.

Scorpio: October 23 - November 21

Scorpio are sensitive . You are ruled by both Pluto and Mars, so being emotionally devoted is second nature to you, you are extremely loving and caring and ready to protect those around you.

Your sensuous nature means you have a deep desire to act on your physical touch element, this is because they are a water sign.

"Scorpio's feel very deeply and intensely," says tarot reader Inbaal.

Sagittarius: November 22 - December 21

Roll on the fun squad! Sagittarius you are adventurous and free spirited, you love exploring the world- consuming as much knowledge as you can. You are at your happiest when you are outdoors.

"They can’t be contained because they thrive on change- new places, new restaurants- new people," explained Honigman. No boring routines for you!

The fire element in your star sign means you are cheerful, the life of the party, spreading fun wherever you go. You have the biggest laughter, with rolling giggles, a trait your friends and family love about you.

You are ruled by Jupiter (planet of growth and generosity) which means you take pleasure in giving and are generous with your possessions.

You don't wait for someone to give you orders because you are an independent thinker, always speaking your mind. Those around you don’t take offence to this because they know you're kind and welcoming by nature.
