Valerie Bertinelli reveals 'scary' health issue
The star opened up in a vulnerable video posted on Instagram.
Being famous doesn't exempt you from anxiety, as Valerie Bertinelli set out to prove with her recent Instagram post. The former Food Network host posted a video of her hand shaking and revealed she suffered her worst anxiety attack in a "very, very long time."
"A few hours ago, I was weeping uncontrollably, and my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest. I couldn’t stop shaking. I know I’m taking a chance, but, I want to share it because I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one out here who has experienced this," she wrote in the caption of the post.
Bertinelli went on to discuss her process for coming out of the attack and how much energy it takes to calm her body down after weeping uncontrollably and having a rapid heart rate.
"I almost disassociate and am focused solely on calming down and finding any road to a more relaxed and peaceful body. Because I know it’s just my brain overthinking and catastrophizing, but my body goes into overdrive and I have no control over it. Hours later, as I’m doing my best to meditate and EMDR my way out of this, this is the after effect that I can’t quite seem to calm all the way yet."
The actress and lifestyle expert wanted her fans and followers to know they weren't alone if they've also suffered with anxiety. She shared that she's "fascinated" by what the human body can do when trying to process complex or overwhelming feelings. She then wanted to connect with anyone watching who also takes time to fully calm down from an attack.
"Anyone else experience an extreme anxiety attack, and then the after effects still take a bit to calm? Tell me I’m not the only one out here 😬 and is there anything that you have also found to be helpful? Anyway…this little bit of vulnerability is brought to you by someone who wants you to know you’re not alone," she wrote.

Bertinelli also opened up to People earlier this year about another health change: being sober for six months.
"Even with life struggles and how life can be challenging, I find that it is easier to get myself clearer faster, about what I need to do and taking care of my life," she told the magazine in July. "I feel good when I wake up in the morning. I'm not groggy. I'm not tired. I'm not: ‘What did I do last night?'
