The UK's favourite Christmas market has officially been named
When it comes to mulled wine, wooden chalets and ice rinks, there's no shortage of yuletide spirit at the UK's traditional Christmas markets. Cities including Bath, London and Belfast have been transformed into winter wonderlands, but one spot in particular has captured the nation this year.
Edinburgh has been voted the UK's favourite Christmas market, beating nine other popular destinations to the title.
Developers McCarthy & Stone asked its customers to choose their all-time favourite from a list of the 10 most Googled markets. Edinburgh came out on top with just over 23 per cent of the vote, followed by Bath in second place and Birmingham in third.
The Scottish capital, which offers two markets on George Street and East Princes Street until 7 January, is loved for its mix of local and European seasonal shopping, decorations and culinary delights. These include the German sausages and Gluhwein at the Bavarian stalls held in East Princes Street Gardens.
The big wheel, Star Flyer chair ride, Santa's Grotto and a circular ice rink in St Andrew Square have also been drawing in the crowds this December.
Bath has also made a name for itself as one of the UK's most festive cities. During November and early December, it was home to over 170 traditional wooden chalets lining the streets of the city, with stalls from craftspeople all over the South West.
