Toddler with Down's syndrome wins modelling contract with Matalan
Slowly but surely, the strict rules on beauty in the fashion world are changing.
And a very small person who can prove that is Lily Beddall, a toddler with Down’s syndrome who’ll now become one of the new faces of Matalan’s children’s wear.
Beddall’s photo is to be seen in every one of the chain’s 2017 stores in a bid to change perceptions about people with disabilities.
And the little girl’s parents, Vicki and Eddie, are thrilled.
“The contract is all about inclusion and changing the face of beauty,” Vicki told The Independent.
“It is wonderful that Matalan chose a child with Down’s syndrome.
I admit I cried when I saw this in our local Matalan! I'm so proud, proud of Lily and proud of what she has achieved. No…

“It’s all about breaking down stereotypes and showing that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes and abilities.”
After the photos went up, the pair apparently took Lily to one of the stores – and she instantly recognised herself, posing for a photo with one of the pictures.
Mrs Beddall added: “We are so proud of her and we are so proud of everything she has achieved. It is the best thing to have happened to us.
“Down’s Syndrome is not what you expect. It is hard work sometimes, but she was going to be hard work anyway as she is two years old.”
