This Talented Artist Is Making Embroidery Look Pretty Darn Cool

To say Danielle Clough’s needlework game is on point would be a massive understatement. The Cape Town-based visual artist is an impressive luminary of, as she puts it, “thing making” as these stunning embroidered portraits will attest.
Clough plays with light and contrast using brightly coloured thread to recreate iconic movie characters and original portraits with spectacular craftswomanship.
She’s also the creator of a highly original mixed media series of badminton and tennis rackets embroidered with a variety of different flowers.
Other work includes adorable embroidered emojis, wearable miniature embroidery hoops and an impressive collection of customised shoes, specially commissioned for Van’s for their 50th birthday event.
