With the arrival of Autumn, it’s time to pack away the summer wardrobe and fully embrace coat season. Hooray! From the classic camel trench to a colour pop woolly warmer, the High Street is awash with coats to cosy up in. But one coat is proving decidedly more popular than the rest. The £69.99 blue and white geometric print, three-quarter length jacket from Zara is fast reaching cult status and it’s not gone unnoticed.
In fact, there is now a dedicated Instagram account which documents every spotted-on sighting of the classic coat. @ThatCoat was set up by Alice Frances and her sister Emily after they spotted the coat several times during a trip to the Chelsea Flower Show, earlier this year.

“I really hadn’t noticed. I hadn’t spotted the infiltration. And I wouldn’t expect you to unless you KNOW. And once you know you’ll start seeing it – sitting next to you on the tube, buying a pret sandwich, sitting in the pew next to you at the wedding…” Alice wrote on her blog.

“It all started at Chelsea Flower Show “She’s wearing my coat” “Which coat?” “That coat” and suddenly, everywhere,” she continues. “A blue and white printed coat worn by women all over London. It’s as though they are in a secret club.”
After deciding the coat had reached ‘epidemic’ proportions, Alice began secretly snapping shots of women wearing the coat - and encouraging friends, family and the rest of the world to do the same.

Now #thatcoat is everywhere – on the school run, the morning commute, at a wedding, in the office, even at the Queen’s birthday celebrations!
So popular is the coat’s appeal, one fan even created a mini cupcake version of it, replicating its detailed pattern in frosting.

Sharing an image of the cute cake to Instagram, Alice captioned the creation “Last night something incredibly exciting happened #thatcoat became a cupcake #thatcoatcupcake by @chescalamarque #cupcake #cake @zara.”
And if you don’t mind coat twinning with half the population #thatcoat is still available to buy from Zara. Time to join the club?
