Carving pumpkins is a much-loved Halloween tradition, but did you know that your seasonal squash could be a magnet for hungry pests?

According to a Pest Infestation Expert at Household Quotes, aphids, snails, slugs, beetles, squash bugs, and squash vine borers seek shelter and food during the colder months as resources are more limited.

If you like to decorate your house with pumpkins, you may spot these pests feasting on the inside flesh.

"Pumpkin carving is extremely popular, it's a fun activity to do with friends and family. But just be careful that you're not letting any unwelcome visitors into your home.

"Be safe by always inspecting the external habitation that you're planning to bring inside," says Joshua Houston.

"There are other causes of pest infestations during the colder months, make sure to take them seriously and be prepared. Pest infestations can cost a lot of money to resolve, so acting now to protect your property is a wise move."

As well as pumpkins, don't forget to keep bins clean. "Any food dropped or left out would be a major attraction to them," Joshua adds.

"Keep the area tidy, and make sure they're secure against the harsh weather to come. A bin blowing over will spread a lot of food waste, attracting pests."

Pests can also make their way into your home through fine cracks in walls and floors.

Even the smallest gap is an invitation for pests to enter, particularly in lofts, sheds and garages. Take advantage of the autumn months by filling any holes to stop pests from entering.
