Liam Payne seen in final photo returning to hotel room before tragic death following balcony fall
Liam Payne's 'final' photo has been released, showing the One Direction singer shortly before his shocking death. The 31 year old died on Wednesday 16 October, after falling 40 feet from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Liam had been holidaying with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy in Buenos Aires ahead of his sudden passing. In one of the last photographs of Liam before his death, the singer is seen returning to his hotel room at Casa Sur Hotel. Hotel staff at the upscale Casa Sur Hotel made a frantic call to emergency services, pleading for "urgent" assistance. A hotel receptionist told the operator on the phone: "We have a guest who's off his head on drugs and is destroying everything in his room. We need someone to come."
After the call was cut off, the receptionist voiced their concern: "I don't know if the guest's life is in danger. The room has a balcony and we are afraid he might do something." In a tragic development, they then said: "Just send an ambulance. Only an ambulance."
Scenes of chaos unfolded as police, firefighters, and ambulances swarmed outside the hotel following the fall. His body was discovered in the internal courtyard of a hotel, leading to the police being called by the hotel manager. It's thought that Liam fell from a height of around 13 or 14 metres, resulting in "very serious injuries incompatible with life."
In a statement given to TN, the local ambulance manager said: "At 17.04 through the 911 integrated public safety system, we were alerted of a person who was in an internal courtyard of the management of a south house hotel. At 17.11 a SAME team arrived and verified the death of this man and later we found out that he was a singer in a musical group. Unfortunately, he had injuries that were incompatible with life, as a result of his fall, so we had to confirm his death, there was no possibility of resuscitation.
The UK Foreign Office has confirmed they're liaising with Argentinian authorities about the death of a British man, reports the Mirror. It has been reported that Liam had checked into a hotel alone prior to his tragic demise. The singer had been spending time with his girlfriend Kate in Argentina, however she flew back to her home in Florida just days before his death.
Explaining why she chose to leave on social media prior to Liam's death, Kate said: "Honestly, love South America but I hate staying in one place for too long. And we were supposed to be there for, like, five days, turned into two weeks. I was just like, ‘I need to go home.’"
