DIY SOS star Nick Knowles has updated Strictly Come Dancing fans on whether he will be returning to the dancing competition this week following his latest injury. The TV presenter, who is paired with professional dancer Luba Mushtuk, had to miss Movie Week on Saturday 5 October following an injury to his knee that he sustained in rehearsals. He revealed the injury happened when he “leapt into position” and one leg stayed still, causing him to collapse and put pressure on the other knee.

Speaking to host Janette Manrara on It Takes Two on Wednesday 9 October, Nick revealed that it remained to be seen whether he would be returning this week. He said: “Each day it gets a little better. On Friday, it looked pretty bad, to be honest, and it felt bad on Saturday. But I got a scan and we had a look at that and decided that we would wait until Monday.” He continued: “It’s a little stronger today, I got to see the physios and did a lot of rehab and saw the doctors. We have decided that they may give me the clearance to try and dance tomorrow. If I can rehearse, they will make the final decision on Friday – we’ll see how I do tomorrow.”

If Nick is given the all-clear to rehearse and appear on Saturday’s show, he will perform the dance he would have been doing last week, the Charleston to Rain on the Roof from Paddington 2, which he chose for his 10 year old son Eddie.

However, fans who had hoped to see Nick dressed up as the famous bear from deepest, darkest Peru will be disappointed, as on It Takes Two Luba revealed she would be the one in the Paddington Bear costume. She also indicated that, if need be, she would make changes to the dance to help Nick’s recovery. “I’ll take it step by step and see what is comfortable, and tomorrow we shall see,” she said.

Nick also apologised to viewers for the second injury he has suffered in the show, following the arm and shoulder injury he sustained while changing a tyre by the side of the road early on in the series.

“I’m getting sick and tired of my injuries,” he said, “and everybody else must be getting fed up with it as well. I just want to be able to do the dance well enough that I’m just judged on the dance and not any of the other things.”
