Strictly's Amy Dowden breaks down live on Lorraine as she admits 'I'm heartbroken'

Amy Dowden broke down in tears live on Lorraine after the talk turned to her celebrating her one-year anniversary of being cancer-free this coming Saturday.

The brave 34-year-old professional dancer appeared on the ITV programme, talking about her time on Strictly Come Dancing, which came to an abrupt end after she'd suffered a painful foot injury and was ordered by doctors to rest.

Lorraine sympathised that Amy had been through the mill over the past few years, following her cancer diagnosis and going on to ring the chemo bell nearly one year ago, all while she battled Crohn's disease. In response to the host's probe, the champion dancer said: "I'm heartbroken, I am going to do my best not to cry."

Speaking on her Strictly departure, she said: "I'm gutted it's ended this way, I feel I've let JB down. After those words you've got cancer, this was my thing."

As Lorraine offered up some kind words, telling her: "It would have been so lovely if you'd have done that on the show and I can see how upset you are and of course you are.

"But you've not let anybody down. We were just really worried about you, that was the thing because we know you've had cancer, you've been so astonishingly brave and you deal with Crohn's disease, you never moan about it and just get on with it."

It was incredibly upsetting for Amy to no longer be part of the show alongside JLS star JB Gill, but fans have since breathed a sigh of relief that her injury was "nothing to do with any previous health scares".

Two weeks ago Strictly viewers were plunged into panic after the news broke that Amy had been taken to hospital as a "precaution" after she'd started to "feel unwell". It was understood that she had collapsed backstage after her performance on the live show.

However, Amy has now revealed that BBC chiefs took precautions after she'd actually suffered an "insufficiency stress fracture" on her shin. Due to the nature of her injury, she's now been ordered by doctors to rest, meaning her time in the competition is over.

It was another blow for the professional dancer after she'd missed out on being part of the 2023 show following the need to undergo chemotherapy for breast cancer. Ringing the chemo bell almost a year to the day.

Given the immense journey she had been on over the past year, Amy could not hide her emotions as she and Lorraine glanced back on what a tough time it had been, with JB's partner "hoping to show herself how far she'd come in one year".

Lorraine didn't want to end the interview on a sad note and instead offered up a lavish pamper hamper while instructing: "You have to sit on your bum misses and just take care of yourself." Amy "promised" that she would and "thanked" the iconic TV star for "all of her support".

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1, from 9am.
