Stanley Tucci may be a renowned, multi-award winning actor, but more recently he has become synonymous with his deep love of food. Now, he regularly shares his connection with his Italian-American culinary heritage through books, TV shows and kitchenware collaborations, and this week has released a new title, What I Ate in One Year and Related Thoughts.

During an interview with BBC Radio 4's Today programme to tie in with the book's release, Stanley discussed his views on 'food porn' - images or videos of meals which are created to be very aesthetically pleasing.

Speaking about food on the show, Stanley said, "The first thing is, don't make it like porn, you know, food porn because that's just silly. There's a disconnect there. Just tell the truth of it."

Instead, he added that his approach was, "The simpler, the better, just like the food itself."

And Good Housekeeping's Cookery Director Meike Beck, completely agrees. With almost 15 years experience making recipes look as tempting as possible for the pages of the magazine, she understands both sides of the food porn debate.

"Oozing cheese pulls, seductive jelly wobbles and provocative citrus squeezing certainly catch the eye more than a chicken traybake might, but that’s all these sexy images can deliver," she says.

"Because, let me tell you, a jelly with 30 leaves of gelatine and no actual flavour (trust me, it’s all food colouring) does not taste seductive, nor are the tastebuds tantalised by a mozzarella slice that’s been reheated to grease-busting point in order to ooze for the camera. So, by all means feast with your eyes for a fling, but engage your stomach for the real deal."
