Sober hen parties are on the rise - and so are booze-free weddings
Hen do hangovers could soon be a thing of the past as more and more brides-to-be insist their last night of freedom is a ‘dry’ one.
New research has found that only 10% of people would refuse to attend a sober or booze-free hen party - with more than half (60%) jumping at the chance to toast the end of their bezzie’s days as a singleton with a few mocktails.
Hitched quizzed 966 people about their attitudes towards hen do drinking and active party ideas.
Almost half of those surveyed (42%) said they would happily take part in an active party that included things like boot camp, yoga experiences, spa days or ParkRun events, but the idea didn’t appeal to 30% of those questioned, who said they would refuse to attend. Meanwhile, just over a quarter (27%) would attend an active hen party 'if they had to’.
An increasing amount of millennials and older Gen Z-ers identify as sober-curious, or practise mindful drinking, which has had a knock on effect on consumer habits.
There’s been a huge increase in the amount of 0% alcohol now available to buy in shops and bars, with many distilleries creating dry versions of their iconic serves.
And, according to Pinterest Predicts, searches for “fancy non-alcoholic drinks” were up by 220% this year, and there was 75% more interest in “mocktail bar”.
Last year the National Wedding Survey revealed rising interest in alcohol-free weddings, with 11% of newlywed couples last year choosing to host "dry weddings”.
One couple surveyed said removing alcohol from the equation made it cheaper and ‘meant there was a lot less mess to clean up afterwards, both physically and emotionally.’
They also added that their guests benefitted from it too, with some of them commenting on how being able to drive home after the event meant they had saved a substantial amount of money paying for accommodation.
