Sarah Lancashire's London-set Netflix spy show Black Doves has confirmed its release date – and it's soon.
The six-episode series focuses on Helen Webb (Keira Knightley), a professional spy who sets out to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death of her secret lover.
She heads off on a mission with suave assassin Sam Young (Ben Whishaw) that leads to a "vast" and "interconnected" conspiracy, which forces them to question the cost of the choices they've made. Lancashire plays Helen's spymaster Reed.
The thriller will premiere on the streaming service on Thursday, 5th December – the perfect way to begin the festive season.
Netflix posted an official teaser clip to their X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday (14th October), giving fans a glimpse at the show's unique characters.
"I'm looking to hire someone," narrates Knightley, as a bloodied Helen and Sam appear on screen.
"No one knows if they can really do it until they try. And then they find out pretty quick," she continues, before Lancashire's character ominously asks: "You sure this is what you want?"
Created by Giri/Haji's Joe Barton, Black Doves also stars Carnival Row's Andrew Buchan, It’s a Sin's Omari Douglas, Warrior's Andrew Koji, Andor's Kathryn Hunter and Fool Me Once's Adeel Akhtar.
"I started writing the scripts for this show over last year's Christmas holidays, fuelled by turkey sandwiches and discarded bottles of cream liquor," Barton previously explained.
"To be now going into production with a cast and crew full of people whose work I admire so much is unbelievably exciting, and I couldn't be more thrilled to get to see this show come to life."
In August, Netflix announced that it had already renewed the show for a second season ahead of season one's release.
Black Doves will premiere on Netflix on Thursday, 5th December.
