Robert Irwin takes Prince William on a hike for their climate project
The Prince of Wales was taken for a morning hike on Tuesday (5 November) by a very special guide to learn about conservation work happening in Cape Town, South Africa.
Conversationist Robert Irwin (son of the late Steve Irwin) joined Prince William on Stunning Hill in the city to talk about about the environmental work happening there.
In a video shared jointly to both Robert and Prince William's official social media accounts, the pair talk about the amazing wildlife of South Africa, and Robert asks the Prince what his favourite African animal is.
“It’s a tough question, my children ask me this regularly," said Prince William in the video clip. "I think I’m going to have to say the cheetah, fantastic animals." Robert Irwin then revealed that his own favourite was the chameleon, which he referred to as an "unsung hero".
Prince William is in Cape Town, South Africa this week ahead of the annual Earthshot Prize awards, which was launched by Prince William to recognise projects creating solutions to climate problems. The awards ceremony will take place tomorrow evening (Wednesday 6 November).
Robert is part of the "Earthshot Prize family", as he referred to it on Instagram, as an ambassador for the the environmental intuitive spearheaded by Prince William.
In a second video featuring rangers and the Mayor of Cape Town, Geordin Hill-Lewis, Prince William praised the all of the, "rangers, conservationists, and volunteers" who are "working tirelessly to preserve the unique biodiversity of the Cape Floral Kingdom."
He finished by thanked Mayor Hill-Lewis and Robert Irwin for all their support with the Earthshot Prize.
