In an age where we use our smartphones to capture almost everything, doing so has quickly become an accepted norm, but not everyone is a fan of this. One public figure that seemingly highly opposed society's compulsion to document life, 24/7, was the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Prior to her passing in September 2022, the Queen was known for getting with the times - she allowed divorces and remarriages within the royal family, she was a patron and president of 500 plus charities, she boosted international relations by being the first British monarch to visit Germany in over 50 years and even joined Twitter.

However, she had her boundaries. Craig Brown, the author of Q: A Voyage Around The Queen, recounted a story that detailed the Queen's stance on the use of social media, which was initially published by Tatler in a 2014 interview with Matthew Barzun.

Recalling the story, Brown detailed that the Queen once stated: 'There have always been tourists and they always used to have regular cameras. They'd put them up, take a picture and then put them down.

'Now, they put these things up and they never take them down. And I miss seeing their eyes.'

While many of us sadly can't seem to cope without using our phones for 10 minutes, it's no shock that the heightened use of our devices makes for an isolated society and lessens face-to-face interactions.

Despite the Queen not appreciating the use of smartphones in this way, she did have one of her own - 'a Samsung model outfitted with an anti-hacker encryption by MI6', says royal commentor Jonathan Sacerdoti.

While she was one of the world's biggest figureheads during her time, the Queen had pet peeves just like us, and incredibly relatable ones at that.
