The Princess of Wales has penned a personal message in honour of Baby Loss Awareness week, and lit a candle to mark the occasion on Tuesday (15 October).

Taking to social media, the Princess shared a close up photograph of a lit candle alongside a heartfelt message of support to "those who have experienced the devastation of baby loss."

"Baby Loss Awareness Week is such an important moment," wrote Kate, adding that she was "Sending love, strength and hope to anyone affected."

The Princess signed the message "C", indicating it was a note from herself personally, rather than from a member of her team who often post updates on behalf of the Prince and Princess of Wales. (Prince William, for instance, signs his own personal messages with "W" to indicate the same).

The candle in the photograph featured a label which read "wave of light", which Kate also included as a hashtag in her post.

Wave of Light is an initiative to mark the culmination of Baby Loss Awareness week on 15 October, in which people across the world join together by "lighting a candle at 7pm local time and leaving it burning for at least one hour to remember all babies that have died too soon," according to the organisation's website.

Baby Loss Awareness Week took place from 9 - 15 October and 2024 was its 22nd year.
