Prince William dons black tie for conservation awards while Kate stays home

The Prince of Wales donned his Sunday best to walk the red carpet at the 2022 Tusk Conservation Awards on Tuesday evening.
William, 40, wore a black two-piece suit and bow tie, with a red poppy on his lapel for the tenth annual Tusk Conservation Awards, which celebrates African-based conservation leaders and wildlife rangers and their significant impacts in the field.
Held at the historical Hampton Court Palace, south-west of London, the 2022 Tusk Conservation Awards is set to bring together alumni from across Africa to not only “celebrate our successes to date, but look ahead to how we move forward together into a new decade, with new challenges, and new opportunities,” says the organisation.
Journalist and former BBC News presenter Kate Silverton hosted the tenth annual awards ceremony honouring people who work for wildlife conservation, alongside the Prince of Wales.

Ahead of the awards ceremony Prince William, Tusk’s Royal Patron since 2005, said: “These awards, which mean a great deal to me personally, play a huge part in our mission to preserve Africa’s precious wildlife for its people.”
“It is vital that we recognise the dedication of these unsung heroes and the bravery of rangers risking their lives, day and night, on conservation’s frontline,” he added. “We all owe them a huge debt of gratitude.”

Kate, Princess of Wales, didn’t attend the glamorous awards ceremony with her husband, but has done previously in 2013 and 2018.
The mother-of-three will join William on Thursday for a visit to Scarborough, and attend the Rugby Football League World Cup Quarter Final alone on Saturday as part of her patronage for the Rugby Football League, which she inherited earlier this year.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have been avid supporters of wildlife and environmental conservation, as well as several mental health, arts, and sports institutions, of which the couple are royal patrons.
The pair walked the green carpet at last year’s inaugural Earthshot Prize Awards at Alexandra Palace, and Prince William attended the 2021 Tusk Awards Ceremony solo, presenting the prestigious awards to Simson Uri-Khob, Julie Razafimanahaka, and Suleiman Saidu.
